Assessment Settings

Configure how assessments work in your class, including question types, timing, navigation, feedback, and security settings. These settings apply to all SBCAT (Scenario-Based Computerized Adaptive Testing) assessments in your class.

❓ Question Settings

Choose the type of questions students will encounter during assessments. This affects how questions are generated and how students interact with them.

β˜‘οΈ

SATA (Select All That Apply)

Questions with multiple correct answers. Students must select all correct options to receive full credit. More challenging but provides deeper assessment of understanding.

  • Multiple correct answers per question
  • Partial credit scoring available
  • Tests comprehensive understanding
β•

MC (Multiple Choice)

Traditional single-answer questions. Students select one correct answer from the options. Simpler format suitable for quick assessments.

  • One correct answer per question
  • All-or-nothing scoring
  • Faster completion time
πŸ”€

Mixed

Combination of SATA and MC questions. The AI determines the best question type based on the competency being assessed.

  • AI selects appropriate format
  • Varied assessment experience
  • Balanced difficulty
πŸ’‘ Recommendation: Use SATA for comprehensive assessment of complex topics. Use MC for quick checks or when time is limited. Mixed mode provides the best of both worlds.

⏱️ Timer Settings

Control time limits for assessments. You can set overall session timers and/or per-question timers.

Timed Assessment (Session Timer)

Set a total time limit for the entire assessment session. When time expires, the assessment automatically submits.

Setting Range Description
Enable Timed Assessment On/Off Toggle to enable overall time limit
Total Duration 5-480 minutes Maximum time for entire assessment

Per-Question Timer

Set individual time limits for each question. Useful for preventing students from spending too long on difficult questions.

Setting Range Description
Timer Per Question On/Off Toggle to enable per-question limits
Per Question Time 1-60 minutes Maximum time per question
⚠️ Note: When both session and per-question timers are enabled, whichever expires first will trigger the next action (auto-submit or move to next question).

⚑ Performance Settings

Optimize the assessment experience with background loading of questions.

Preload Questions in Background

When enabled, the system loads upcoming questions while the student is answering the current one. This reduces wait time between questions.

Setting Range Description
Enable Preloading On/Off Toggle background loading
Preload Buffer Size 1-10 questions Number of questions to preload
βœ… Recommended: Enable preloading with a buffer of 3 questions for optimal performance without excessive memory usage.

πŸ’‘ Feedback & Learning Settings

Configure how students receive feedback and access learning resources during and after assessments.

Feedback Settings

Setting Description
Provide Feedback on Incorrect Answers Master toggle for all feedback options
Show Correct Answer Display the correct answer after submission
Show Explanation Display why the answer is correct/incorrect
Allow Review of Previous Questions Students can view answered questions (read-only)

Remedial Learning Options

When students answer incorrectly, you can provide access to learning modules to help them understand the material before continuing.

πŸ—ΊοΈ

Knowledge Explorer Access

Opens an interactive concept map for the competency being tested. Students can explore related concepts and deepen understanding.

πŸŽ“

Socratic Playground Access

Opens an AI-powered tutoring session for the competency. Students receive personalized guidance through Socratic dialogue.

πŸ’‘ Pedagogical Benefit: Enabling remedial access turns assessments into learning opportunities. Students who struggle get immediate, targeted help rather than just seeing a wrong answer.

πŸ›‘οΈ Security Settings

Protect assessment content from unauthorized capture and sharing.

Screen Capture Prevention

Enable Screen Capture Prevention

Detects and prevents various methods of capturing assessment content:

  • Blocks Print Screen key
  • Prevents Ctrl+C copying
  • Disables right-click context menu
  • Blocks printing (Ctrl+P)
  • Detects screen sharing applications

Blur Content on Capture Attempt

When a capture attempt is detected, the assessment content is blurred until the student returns focus to the assessment window. This ensures any captured image is unreadable.

⚠️ Limitations

Screen capture prevention is a deterrent, not a guarantee. Determined students may find workarounds (external cameras, etc.). Use in combination with other academic integrity measures.

πŸ’Ύ Saving Settings

All assessment settings are saved when you click the "Save All Settings" button at the bottom of each section. Changes take effect immediately for new assessment sessions.

πŸ’‘ Note: Students who are currently in an assessment session will use the settings that were active when they started. New settings apply only to new sessions.
